Description
I chose Shanen Lakhani for a different reason. His experience allowed me to explore the relaonship between physical preparaon, injury, recovery and mental performance. One of the important parts of his interview was his experience with injury. He described inially connuing to play despite a meniscus injury, which eventually became significantly worse. During the period when he was unable to play, his gym training and nutrion became a part of rebuilding his body. He described gaining strength and muscle through structured gym work and nutrion before returning to football. I found this parcularly relevant because one of the aims of this book is to move away from the idea that gym training for football is simply about looking stronger. Strength training should have a purpose. It should help the footballer become more capable of dealing with the demands of the sport. I wanted this book to acknowledge something that is somemes ignored when young footballers talk about development: You cannot develop a football career by focusing only on football.
