This book is an effort to crystalize the facts about structural retrofit of the units constructed at UAE before few decades. It has been very distinctly observed by the structural experts over last few years that structures constructed in initial period of development of UAE, are found developing some challenges – which can be a threat to their desired functional life.
A holistic analysis has been made for study of these challenges faced by the structures at UAE and then an effort has also been made to precipitate the remedial actions to compensate for the losses suffered by the structures because of the challenges –so that the structures are available for throughout their designed functional life and many more to follow.
Some light has also been thrown on the futuristic actions to ensure that such phenomena doesn’t repeat. It would require sincere, scientific and mammoth efforts, energy and finance to ensure their survival which is incidentally under its way as on date.
The task lies with the eminent structural consultants to use all their Technical expertise and come up with those techniques which substantiate the aesthetics with a stable, sound and safe structure behind, for its respective functional purpose.
Conventional techniques might fall short at the UAE for their successful performance. ‘Thinking out of the box’ might be judiciously required for the purpose of ensuring the sustainability of the structures.
