About The Book
This book is a collection of poetry, prose, ghazals, and essays.
The language of the book is both English and Hindi in the ratio 30:70. By ‘Hindi’, I mean ‘Hindi & Urdu’ written in Devanagari script. The ratio is skewed in favour of Hindi as it is the language of the people where I reside and because of my love for the language.
The first article in this book was written in 2009, and the last was written in 2025. The sequence of the articles in this book follows the chronology of their creation. This reflects the journey of the author himself.
The flow of time mirrors my quest for learning.
With passage of time, how I perceive my surroundings – how these surroundings shape my thoughts – how these thoughts generate the desire to learn new words – all these elements have come together to help me shape this book.
Some of my friends, and even my publisher, expressed concerns that putting such a diverse collection – multiple genres – dual language – could affect readability, and consequently the book’s economics. I acknowledge that they may be right, at least in a conventional sense.
This led me to ask myself, “Why am I publishing the book?”
The answer was straightforward – for myself and for my family.
As the motivation was beyond economics, it felt prudent to go ahead with publishing this book without much overthinking.
The journey of the author, and of this book, is far from complete.
At present, I am reading and listening to folk songs from Uttar Pradesh. This has encouraged me to try my hand in another dialect, and I have written a poem in Awadhi. Though it does not form a part of this book, it surely can form a part of the second book.
This book has taken over sixteen years to reach publication. I don’t know how much time the second book will take before getting published. I also don’t know if I can pen many more articles in Awadhi, Bhojpuri, or any other.
But that uncertainty itself is the beauty of the future.
It is a quest that will flow with time.
